Octopus Doorstop

Image
Made myself a doorstop! On the boat our doors are sliding doors and often if we are listing the bathroom door slides open and closed (not always helpful!) So here's my answer..a cute little octopus who's tentacles are holding open the door. He's a great talking point for visitors! And yes the suckers were a bloody nightmare!

Integration time!

Ok so welcome to the new look blog!  As I now have two websites up and running: My shop - Blue Fish Studios and my Ceramics Art - Lucy Kite Ceramics , I have decided to integrate the two into one blog, so this will incorporate the behind the scenes ceramics, new projects and gift ideas. Hopefully it will be full, detailed and keep you more informed with everything in the same place!

Ceramics are go...

So I've caught the ceramics bug and lately getting my hands stuck into a wet lump of clay is my favourite thing to do. That and being stuck on the boat from flooding (couldn't see any land), snow drifts and now heading back towards flooding again, it's been a sloppy jumpers and joggers couple of months with no end in sight. So clay has now inspired me to head my business in that direction at the moment. So quirky characters are becoming my thing and I have changed my website banner and logo to reflect this. Hope you like it! Melvin the Goblin has given me quirky inspiration and I didn't know it was in my head until he sculpted himself from a lump of stoneware clay when I was watching Labyrinth on the telly!   He has already been snapped up, but more are on the way of this variety, here's a sneaky peek of the next creature (unnamed as yet) sitting slowly drying ready to be fired asap :-)

Still Here!

Phew, it's been hectic the last few months and not just with the business! We've had leaky water pumps and all sorts to deal with on the boat, not to mention the car flashing engine lights at us. Still, all should be done now, fingers crossed! Ok, so my kiln for ceramics is now fully functional and I've been locked in my studio covered in clay for quite some time to bring out new designs and heading in new directions. I've now found my favourite clay to work with after many hands in different textures and the winner is Scarva Stoneware. It gives a lovely earthy buff finish to my work which for some features works great on it's own without the need for glazing or acrylics. In fact I've enjoyed it so much that I'm struggling to use up the last of my grey clay which is not such a great texture to work with. But, needs must and none shall be wasted! Ceramics signs are a new product for me and have proved very popular at the local craft fairs. Plus func...

Keyrings galore!

The new collection is now available on the website with free postage on all keyrings! Phew! I have around 30 designs all on solid sycamore wood. Keyrings Here's sneaky peek at some designs. I sketch on the wood in pencil, then burn the design in and finish with acrylic paints and clear wood varnish to give them some sparkle!
